The trekking, leads to the discovery of the small lakes of Pannicaro and Lago Secco. There are three perennial bodies of water protected by the WWF: an area of 15 hectares located in the Province of Rieti, in the Municipality of Accumoli (hard-hit by the earthquakes of 2016) in a Site of Community Importance (SIC IT6020002) about 1,500 meters high. It is also a Special Protection Area and also protected by the Gran Sasso National Park and Monti della Laga.
The hike is medium demanding, allows you to immerse yourself in an environment surrounded by natural scenery still intact and of great suggestion. When you reach your destination there is a wide glacial valley at the center of which you will find the three bodies of water; you can observe and photograph the Rana temporaria and the alpine newt, as well as plant species relics of the Quaternary era such as willows.
It is also frequent to encounter herds of cattle grazing in the wild
