Quel tempo della tua vita mortale,
Quando beltà splendea
Negli occhi tuoi ridenti e fuggitivi,
E tu, lieta e pensosa, il limitare
Di gioventù salivi?"
In front of the Leopardi Palace in Recanati (MC) is the house where Teresa Fattorini, the "Silvia" sung by Poet Giacomo Leopardi, lived.
Through our story you will discover not only Teresa's life, but also curiosities related to historical period and to the Leopardi family itself.
Afterwards, we will cross the piazzuola to enter the historic cellars of Palazzo Leopardi, and after a brief tour of the cellars themselves you will be able to taste inside them the wine of the Azienda Agraria Conti Leopardi of San Leopardo, and typical products of our territory.
The building, restored and opened to the public in 2017, was built by Monaldo in1796. Originally on the ground floor it housed horses and carriages, and on the upper floors it gave accommodation to the so-called "famigli," the Leopardi's employees. The latter continued to inhabit the building over the centuries until avent'anni ago.
The house where Teresa lived consists of several small rooms furnished with period furniture and furnishings, all from the palace. Thanks to nineteenth-century sources we have certain information about the Fattorini family members and their history, so it was not difficult to recover the rooms in a philologically correct manner. Of great help, too, was the discovery of the ancient wall paintwork, which made it possible to carefully restore the original colors of the interior and facades of the building.
